(University of Colorado Athletics)Colorado offensive coordinator Sean Lewis has a basic goal for the Buffaloes this season.“I want to get the ball into as many playmakers’ hands as often as possible,” he said Thursday after the second day of CU’s preseason camp. “However we’re going to do that, whether we throw it, we hand it, we pitch it, we shovel it, we hide it under someone’s legs and they hand it to someone else. (Cliff Grassmick/Staff Photographer)For the Colorado Buffaloes to have a chance to exceed the outside expectations this season, they’ll need a lot of things to come together and go their way. There may not be a bigger key to their success, however, than the working relationship between offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Sean Lewis and junior quarterback Shedeur Sanders. When head coach Deion Sanders was hired in December, he immediately announced that his son would be the Buffs’ starting quarterback. Then, he hired Lewis, the former head coach at Kent State, to run the offense that will be steered by Shedeur this season. After a spring and summer together, Lewis and Shedeur are getting on the same page.“I’m learning from him because I would say in the spring I looked at the offense a cert...

By Maggie Astor | New York TimesSince September, Gavin Newsom, California’s ambitious, proudly liberal governor, has been tauntingly challenging Ron DeSantis, the ambitious, proudly conservative governor of Florida, to a debate. He would even agree, he said, to let the right-wing Fox News host Sean Hannity moderate. On Wednesday, DeSantis accepted.“You heard Gavin make the offer,” Hannity said on his show. “Your answer is?”“Absolutely,” a smiling DeSantis replied. “I’m game. Let’s get it done. Just tell me when and where.”In a letter last week, Newsom outlined his proposed terms: a date of Nov. 8 or 10; a location in Georgia, Nevada or North Carolina; and a focus “on the impact of representation at the state level.”Nathan Click, a spokesperson for Newsom, said in a statement late Wednesday: “November 8th or 10th. DeSantis should put up or shut up. Anything else is just games.”Such an event would...

We care because decisions were made without the Concord City Council following their own procedures to gain detailed information for each developer, and their financial capability. We don’t want a third time like this. Whoops. But from 35,000 feet, the millions spent on Chromebooks by school districts would be excusable had they resulted in measurable educational achievement. The COVID mandate said that school districts “provid[e] some sort of digital learning device” to facilitate remote learning. What was the measurable educational result? Per the Public Policy Institute of California headlines, “Pandemic disruptions reversed nearly six years of academic progress.”Early on it was clear that COVID was a serious risk for the aged — children much less so. With 5.8 million school-aged kids, the California Department of Public Health reports 1,582,829 COVID cases and 63 deaths, so there are tw...
