Antioch council members will discuss problems with delays in getting items agendized and whether the city’s mayor should continue to be elected during a special meeting Tuesday night.Councilman Mike Barbanica asked for the special meeting this week after becoming frustrated that an item he wanted on the agenda was not included, and Mayor Pro Tem Tamisha Torres-Walker agreed to call a meeting regarding the agenda procedures.Barbanica said he wanted to “reinvent the way the agenda is handled… to give all council members much more say as to what is on the agenda.” Currently, the mayor, which is an elected position, determines the agenda. The councilman noted that he had asked on May 9 for the tobacco ordinance to return to council after it failed on a 2-to-1 vote on a second reading when two council members – Torres-Walker and Mayor Lamar Thorpe – were absent. FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Padraig Harrington didn’t intend for the PGA Championship to be a tuneup for the senior version a week later. It could be turning out that way.Harrington shot 8-under 64 on Thursday in the first competitive round at the new Texas headquarters of the PGA of America for a two-shot lead at the Senior PGA Championship. The 51-year-old Irishman finished 7 over at Oak Hill with an 8-over 43 on the front nine Saturday. Par instead on that wayward nine would have meant a top-20 finish, but Harrington didn’t see it that way.“I was at least a week short in preparation,” Harrington said. “I felt I was getting into it last week, but I wasn’t there. I need to do a better job when I’m away from tournaments. So, last week it definitely helped me get where I am today, no doubt about it.”Japan’s Katsumasa Miyamoto shot 66 and Brazilian Adilson da Silva had a 67 in the Senior PGA debut for both. ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Tim Walz on Thursday vetoed a bill that would have mandated higher pay and job security for Lyft and Uber drivers in Minnesota, saying the legislation wasn’t ready to become law.“Rideshare drivers deserve fair wages and safe working conditions,” Walz said in a statement announcing his first veto ever in his five-plus years as governor. “I am committed to finding solutions that balance the interests of all parties, including drivers and riders. This is not the right bill to achieve these goals.”Uber threatened to offer only premium-priced service in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and cut off service altogether in the rest of Minnesota if Walz signed the legislation.“This bill could make Minnesota one of the most expensive states in the country for rideshare, potentially putting us on par with the cost of rides in New York City and Seattle — cities with dramatically higher costs of living than Minnesota,” the Democratic governor said ...Kiwi golfer Michael Hendry receiving treatment for leukemia
